Aircuity

Aircuity is a system which monitors indoor air quality (IAQ) and reacts to contaminants in the environment by increasing the amount of fresh air introduced to the space. This demand controlled ventilation (DCV) solution is attractive to research facilities for which constant monitoring and adjustment of air flow relative to air contaminants is critical to maintain the safety of occupants.

How Does it Work?
Air samples from each zone are delivered to a centralized Sensor Suite via an Air Data Router. The Sensor Suite detects the presence of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, airborne particulates, humidity, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), in real time. If the quality of the air sample is outside of acceptable levels, the sensor suite signals the supply air valves to increase air flow to the space until the indoor air quality is optimized. The system also has an override button to that will prompt the supply air valves to immediately allow 100% airflow and will also sound alarms to alert occupants, in the event of an emergency.

Unlike a typical system which alters the number of air changes per hour (ACH) on a fixed schedule according to factors such as expected occupancy or equipment, Aircuity bases ACH on actual environmental data. Air flow is determined by air quality which results in energy conservation, reduced utility costs, and improved comfort of occupants.

Advantages of Aircuity

  • Real-time monitoring of indoor air quality (IAQ)
  • Automatic increase of airflow when quality levels fluctuate
  • Improves comfort of occupants in labs that have high ACH
  • Increases efficiency and lowers energy costs
  • Provides historical data for facility managers and current data for lab staff

Aircuity systems can reportedly reduce energy consumption in laboratory space by 50% or more and result in simple payback time frames of 2 years or less. Contact a BCH representative to learn how Aircuity can add value to your next research facility project.
