Heat Recovery Chillers

Heat Recovery Chillers provide heat as a byproduct of refrigeration. These systems deliver chilled water and hot water simultaneously, effectively offering hot water at no cost. This reduces expense and energy consumption. Heat Recovery Chillers, available in both air-cooled and water-cooled versions, are an excellent choice for hospitals, universities, and hotels.

Benefits of Heat Recovery Chillers

  • Ideal for buildings or processes with simultaneous heating and cooling loads
  • Available Heat Recovery of more than 75% heat recovery from the process
  • Variable heat recovery from 0-100% of design without affecting chiller operation
  • Ideal for LEED project designs
  • Variable hot water temperature up to 140F

How Do They Work?

During cooling, the chiller produces a controlled source of chilled water leaving the evaporator while dissipating heat through the condenser. When both chilled water and hot water are needed, the chiller can operate in heat recovery mode. The recovered heat can be redirected for various heating applications.

When looking only at the water chilling mode, heat recovery chillers are not highly efficient. It is when the heat production is a “free” by product of chilled water that energy efficiency is realized. Therefore, this application is best (and most efficiently) utilized in a facility that operates with a year round cooling and heating load.

Can Heat Recovery Enhance Your Next Project?

If your next project is a hotel, for example, a Heat Recovery Chiller can reclaim the heat produced to create a cool environment for guests in order to provide hot water for showers or kitchen use. These systems reduce heat waste, energy consumption, and utility costs. For more information about Heat Recovery Chillers, contact a member of the BCH Estimation team.
