Hydropower sensor faucets are typically referred to as motion sensor, hands-free, or touchless faucets. While a hydropower sensor faucet operates when it detects motion, it is unique in that it is powered by its own small hydroelectric generator. This enables the faucet to run without electricity or batteries, which is a common power source even among other popular sensor faucets. These differences result in improved hygiene, energy efficiency, and water conservation when compared with manual taps.
Advantages of Hydropower
- Hands-free for cleanliness
- Self-generated power saves electricity
- Aerated flow is water-efficient
- Sensor protects against taps left running or dripping
- ADA compliant
- Sturdy and reliable
- Suitable for heavy traffic commercial facilities
- Less maintenance with respect to parts replacement and cleaning
How Does it Work?
An automatic microsensor is positioned at the tip of the spout. Water is dispensed when needed and shuts off automatically when hands are removed from the infrared sensing zone. Accurate hand detection means the amount of water used is at a minimum. A small generator is located inside the unit. It harnesses the energy from the water flowing through the tap creating an energy independent fixture. Facilities can save up to 70% on water conservation when compared with manually activated faucets.
