This was a major mechanical retrofit to an existing building located in Largo, Florida. The existing building was conditioned with direct expansion air conditioning equipment and the retrofit converted the mechanical systems to water cooled chilled water.
A new central energy plant, which consisted of over five hundred tons of cooling, was constructed with new water cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps, piping systems and controls. The chilled water was routed on the roof of the building to over twenty-five roof mounted chilled water air handling units.
The existing direct expansion roof mounted air conditioning units had to be phased out one at a time, and the new chilled water units brought online in a timely manner to prevent any downtime for the owner. The facility remained in operation during the entire process.
